Charles R. Figley, Ph.D., began his career in 1971 as a member of the faculty at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Since then he has held faculty appoints at Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana), Sabbatical appoints at Princeton, Cornell Medical School, and Kuwait University, and is currently a full professor at Florida State University (Tallahassee, Florida) and Director of the Psychosocial Stress Research Program.
Through his 18 books, 85 refereed journal articles, and hundreds of invited presentations throughout the world, Dr. Figley has influence and shaped the fields and research areas of traumatology, secondary traumatic stress (compassion fatigue), family stress and coping, and veteran/veteran family studies including combat operational stress management.
He is winner of dozens of awards including the ISTSS Pioneer Award, the American Psychological Association's Family Psychologist of the Year, and the NOVA Shaffer Research Award.
