About the Authors
Lee Ann Hoff, PhD
Lee Ann Hoff is a nurse-anthropologist and mental health professional with extensive clinical, management, teaching, research, and consulting experience in crisis and mental health care, women's health, and sociocultural issues affecting health. Dr. Hoff holds degrees in nursing and in social sciences, and a certificate in suicidology and crisis. Major publications include the award-winning book, People in Crisis: Clinical and Diversity Perspectives. 6th Ed. (2009, Routledge, NY); Battered Women As Survivors (1990, Routledge, UK); Violence and Abuse Issues: Cross-cultural Perspectives for Health and Social Services (in press, 2010, Routledge, UK); Psychiatric & Mental Health Essentials in Primary Care (2010, in process); and numerous other works.
Currently, Dr. Hoff is Research Consultant at the University of Massachusetts Lowell; Adjunct Professor, University of Ottawa, Faculty of Health Sciences; and Visiting Professor, ISPA (Institute for Applied Psychology), Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Hoff is a member of several professional organizations and is active in peace and anti-violence movements.

Bonnie Joyce Hallisey, MSW, LICSW
Bonnie Joyce Hallisey is a Social Worker (MSW, LICSW) and Teacher. Her social work career began in the Welfare and Child Welfare Departments of Commonwealth of Massachusetts which sponsored her graduate education at Boston University. She has continually worked with people of diverse backgrounds and national origins in urban areas of Boston, in both public and private sectors. Currently serving high risk immigrant groups at Kit Clark Senior Services in Boston, a division of Bay Cove Human Services, Inc., Bonnie has spanned the life cycle in her career from working with children to older adults, always in the context of family and society.
In addition to community mental health, Bonnie teaches as a Senior Lecturer at Curry College in Milton, MA. in Sociology and Psychology where it has been her pleasure to bring the People in Crisis text to life for more than a decade. Whether teaching, administrating, supervising, mentoring or direct clinical care, it has been Bonnie's privilege to make a difference in lives of others who have also made a difference in her life.
Miracle R. Hoff
Miracle Hoff is a mental health and substance abuse professional. She holds a master's degree in Counseling and Guidance with an emphasis on Community Counseling. She is a licensed professional counselor and a licensed addiction counselor. Her clinical experience includes working with diverse clientele experiencing crisis situations resulting from mental health and substance abuse issues. She has worked in outpatient, residential, and correctional settings providing assessment, group, individual and family counseling services. Her clinical practice is grounded in a strength based and empowerment philosophy.
In addition to her direct clinical work, Miracle has provided clinical supervision to other licensed professionals and undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of human service areas. She enjoys providing community education, preventive, and crisis services to students of all ages, family members, community members, and professional service providers. Miracle has also worked as an administrator within for-profit and not-for-profit agencies providing mental health and substance abuse services.
