Submitting a Book Proposal to Routledge Mental Health
We are committed to publishing the best books in mental health, and would be delighted to discuss your ideas with you. Please use our proposal form, below to forward details of your planned book to our editorial department. We will contact you in due course on receipt of these details with editorial feedback.
If we wish to pursue your project, we will ask you to submit a detailed proposal, in which you describe the purpose, scope and features of your book. We will send this outline to appropriate reviewers to inform our publishing decision and to obtain detailed and constructive feedback for you.
With this in mind, your detailed proposal should include the following elements:
- A synopsis of the content of the proposed book
- A rationale for the book - For whom is it written? What needs will it fulfil? What competition is there? Evidence to support this
- A chapter-by-chapter outline, summarising the content of each chapter (key references are useful)
- Are there tables / diagrams / illustrations? If so, how many? Will they need redrawing?
- A brief Resumé/CV for the author / editor / contributors, outlining professional qualifications, previous publishing experience, etc.
- Sample material if available (draft acceptable) or previously published material as appropriate
- A note on the estimated overall length of the finished typescript in thousands of words (80-90,000 is the sort of length to aim at)
- A note on whether the material will be available on disk
- A note on when the finished typescript is likely to be ready
- If you are submitting the proposal to other publishers, please state which ones
